Remember when Facebook was just for college students? If you're a Millennial, you're nodding vigorously right now while the Boomers and Zoomers are questioning my sanity. However, it was a thing! Back in those halcyon days of 2006, before the recession or COVID-19, Matt and Amber were two young kids just getting a college education in the middle of the country -- at the University of Missouri. These two young nerds spent their evenings online and, being opinionated types, joined groups on Mizzou’s Facebook to debate current events. It was in one such group where they met and enjoyed discussing everyone's favorite subjects: religion and politics. They soon took these chats to what the kids today call "DMs" where they would talk the night away. One fine spring day between classes, Amber was taking a break in Brady Commons when a handsome young man with spiky hair said hello. He recognized her and began a friendly chat. Amber, having no idea who this person was, faked some equally friendly banter while trying to remember which class she shared with this fine fellow. He had to continue on to his next class so he took his leave. She said goodbye, then went on her own way. Wracking her brain, it clicked on the walk back to her dorm -- it was Matt! She rushed up the stairs to her dorm room and flipped open her laptop. "I am sooo sorry," she typed into AIM. "I totally didn't recognize you today. Can I buy you coffee tonight?" Matt replied shortly, "I don't drink coffee, but we could get dinner?" The two youngsters (one from New York City and the other Hawaii) met again that evening at Brady Commons in Columbia, Missouri. They shared a Subway sandwich and talked until they were the last people left in the building. So is the tale of how Amber and Matt met in the middle. Since then their love and friendship has lasted thousands of miles, dozens of road trips, three moves, one mortgage, a few career changes, three cats and lots of good food and company. Z-O-U!
